For the first time on the big screen, Barolo Boys. The Story of a Revolution tells the fascinating story of a group of friends who bring a revolution in the Langhe, and how Barolo exploded as a world phenomenon.
Now one of the most famous red wines in the world, 30 years ago Barolo was unknown even in its own production region, the beautiful Langhe (just nominated UNESCO World Heritage Site), in northwestern Italy.
Barolo’s current success is mainly due to the courage and initiative of a group of small-scale wine producers, the so-called Barolo Boys.
In the optimistic Eighties, these winemakers upset the quiet world of the Piedmontese countryside and brought about a revolution in Italian wine, igniting a fierce controversy between different generations and different ways of thinking.
After almost 30 years, what is left of that experience? As one of the film’s characters asks, what revolution has ever been successful?
Barolo Boys. The Story of a Revolution traces the short but intense trajectory of a group of producers who indelibly changed the world of wine.

With (among the others):
Elio Altare, Chiara Boschis, Marco de Grazia, Giorgio Rivetti, Roberto Voerzio
With the special participation of:

Film characters

(Personaggi)

Elio Altare

The Leader

ELIO ALTARE
Producer of La Morra, his striking gesture gives rise to the "Reform" in 1983: with a chainsaw reduces firewood the large old casks to make space for the new French oak barrels. His father Giovanni does not understand the drastic choices of a boy who wants to break up with his old world and dies two years later, without forgiveness for his son.

MARC DE GRAZIA

The Coach

MARC DE GRAZIA
If the Barolo Boys were a team, Marco de Grazia was its coach. Mother from Florence, father from California, a degree in Classics in his pocket, he becomes the importer and talent scout of young producers and brings them, new Ulysses, “to the end of the world”. Today he produces wine in Sicily, very close to the Mount Etna.

Chiara Boschis

Barolo Girl

CHIARA BOSCHIS
The "one girl" of the Barolo Boys group. Heir of a prestigious dynasty of winemakers in Barolo, at the beginning of the Nineties started with her own estate and follows the footsteps of friends and colleagues, soon becaming one of the most well-known Italian winemakers in the world.

GIORGIO RIVETTI

The Rhinoceros

GIORGIO RIVETTI
An imposing personality before acquiring vineyards in the Barbaresco and Barolo, then becoming one of the leaders of the modernist movement. Of its conception some of the most important and successful promotional initiatives of the Barolo Boys in the Eighties and Nineties.

ROBERTO VOERZIO

Producer in La Morra

ROBERTO VOERZIO
Since the late Eighties, his dream is to play in Langa the timeless charm of the great red wines of Burgundy. To do so, there is no other way than to refine practices vineyard extreme. Voerzio can count on the most celebrated “crus” in the Langhe, provides a high density of vines and thinning a "ruthless" on clusters, where the yield has fallen to 40 quintals per hectare, less than half of the rules of the disciplinary production of Barolo.

BRUNO CERETTO

Producer in Alba

BRUNO CERETTO
Bruno and Marcello Ceretto are also know as "The Barolo Brothers", since they were among the first italian winemakers who started proposing their wines outside Italy, and especially in the USA. (from Ceretto.com) "The two brothers' objective was to select vineyards in the most historically important areas for the production of great wines. This idea, spawned by a visit to Burgundy, would prove the wisdom of the Ceretto family, placing their bottles among the greats of enology and elevating Barolo and Barbaresco among the most appreciated and prestigious wines in the world. The idea was revolutionary at the time for a territory in which the concept of "cru" was completely unknown, but most of all, it was a genial intuition."

A. CERETTO

Producer in Alba

ALESSANDRO CERETTO
Alessandro, Marcello's youngest child, graduated from the Agriculture, Viticulture and Enology Institute in Alba. He continued his education and experience abroad, working harvests on wine estates in the finest wine-growing areas in the world (Bordeaux, South Australia, California, South Africa).

MAGGIORINO

Wine Worker

MAGGIORE VACCHETTO

MARTA RINALDI

Producer in Barolo

MARTA RINALDI
Beppe's daughter Marta Rinaldi (b. 1985) has joined him in the winery after getting a degree in enology from the institute in Alba.

DAVIDE ROSSO

Producer in Serralunga

DAVIDE ROSSO

GIANCARLO GARIGLIO

The Critic

GIANCARLO GARIGLIO

Oscar Farinetti

The Businessman

OSCAR FARINETTI

JOE BASTIANICH

The Voice

JOE BASTIANICH
For the first time on the big screen. Joe Bastianich, one of the most celebrated American restaurant-men, tv personality, winemaker and wine writer, judge in the “Master Chef” format

Carlo Petrini

The Guide

Carlo Petrini
(from Wikipedia) Carlo Petrini (Carlin) is the founder of the International Slow Food Movement. He first came to prominence in the 1980s for taking part in a campaign against the fast food chain McDonald's opening near the Spanish Steps in Rome. In 1983, he helped to create and develop the Italian non-profit food and wine association known as Arcigola. In October 2004, he founded the University of Gastronomic Sciences, a school intended to bridge the gap between agriculture and gastronomy. He was chosen as one of Time magazine's heroes of the year.

BEPPE RINALDI

Citrico

BEPPE RINALDI
Giuseppe Rinaldi, or, more simply, “Citrico,” as he is known to everyone, is a veterinarian “lent” to viticulture and winemaking, a compelling raconteur and, according to all, one of the most original and clearest thinkers, not to mention liberal, in all of the Barolo Langa

GIAMPIERO CEREDA

Banker

GIAMPIERO CEREDA

SILVIA ALTARE

Producer in La Morra

SILVIA ALTARE

CAV. ACCOMASSO

The Cavaliere

CAV. LORENZO ACCOMASSO

BEPPE CAVIOLA

The Enologist

BEPPE CAVIOLA

DAVID BERRY GREEN

The Importer

DAVID BERRY GREEN
